Pro/Subscribers

Subscribers

Let anglers sign up for your catch reports by email, send them your blog posts with your next dates, and export your list. Pro only.

Subscribers are anglers who asked to hear from you by email. They sign up on your website or when they book, and they get the blog posts you choose to email them, ending with your next dates. Nothing goes to them unless you send it, and you can export your list for any email tool you like. Subscribers come with Gillie Pro.

Turn on sign-ups

Only the owner or an admin can do this, and only they see Subscribers.

  1. Go to Settings, then Subscribers. On a phone, Settings is under More.
  2. Turn on Let anglers sign up for your emails.
  3. Under Postal address, type the address your emails end with. A PO box is fine.
  4. Tap Save in the bar at the bottom of the screen.

Your website now shows a Get the catch reports box at the foot of its pages, and checkout gets a box to tick for your emails.

How do anglers sign up?

  • On your website, they type their email and get a link to confirm it. Once they tap Confirm my email, they’re on your list.
  • When they book, they can tick the box, which starts unticked. If they pay online, they join once the booking goes through. If they’ll pay you on the day, they get a link to confirm first.

Gillie never says whether an address is already on your list, so nobody can use the box to find out.

Email a blog post

  1. Go to Blog and write your post. On a phone, Blog is under More.
  2. Tick the box to email it to your subscribers.
  3. Tap Publish.

It goes once, a few seconds after you publish, and you can tap Undo on Subscribers until then. A catch report about a trip on your website ends with that trip’s next dates, each with a Book button. Anglers who fished that trip and got the write-up already don’t get it twice.

Export your list

  1. Go to Subscribers. On a phone, it’s under More.
  2. Tap Export.

You get a spreadsheet file of everyone who confirmed: their email, when they joined and how they signed up. Anyone who hasn’t confirmed is left out. Once you email them from another tool, that tool’s own unsubscribe link looks after them, and leaving there doesn’t take them off your list here.

Why do your emails need a postal address?

The law on marketing emails in the US, and good practice everywhere, asks for the sender’s postal address at the foot of every email. Gillie adds yours under the unsubscribe link. Until you’ve added one, nothing goes to your list, and Gillie tells you where to add it.

How many emails can you send?

Each list gets a few emails a week, so it stays keen. When you’ve used them, Subscribers tells you, and a post you publish goes up without being emailed.

See how it’s going

Subscribers shows how many are on your list, who joined this month and the places booked from your emails. Under Sent, each email shows how many it went to and the places booked from it.

Tap See everyone for your whole list. Each person shows when they joined, and whether they’re Not confirmed yet. Tap Take off to remove someone. They can sign up again themselves.

How do anglers stop your emails?

Every email has a link at the foot. It opens a page where they tap Unsubscribe. They still get emails about trips they book. Anyone whose address bounces for good, or who marks an email as spam, comes off your list by themselves.

Turn sign-ups off

Turn off Let anglers sign up for your emails and tap Save. The sign-up box and the checkout tick go, but nobody is taken off your list, and you can still email them.

If your business goes back to Free, your website has no sign-up box and you can’t email your list. Tap See Pro to look at Pro again.

Still stuck, or something here looks wrong? Email [email protected] and you’ll hear back from a person.
