Getting paid/Getting paid

Getting paid

Turn on card payments so anglers pay when they book and the money goes straight to your bank.

Anglers can book on your website from day one and pay you on the day. Turn on card payments and they pay by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay when they book instead. Stripe pays the money into your bank a few days after each booking.

Turn on card payments

Only the owner or an admin can do this.

  1. Go to Settings, then Payments and payouts. On a phone, Settings is under More.
  2. Under Where your business is based, pick your country. You can’t change this later, so pick the country your bank account is in.
  3. Tap Turn on card payments and fill in Stripe’s form. It takes about two minutes, and you don’t need a Stripe account.

If you need to stop halfway, tap Finish later. When you come back, the button says Carry on.

Stripe then checks your details. That usually takes a few minutes and sometimes a day or two. The page updates by itself when it’s done, and anglers keep booking and paying you on the day in the meantime.

What anglers see

On your booking page, anglers pay by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. They never see Stripe’s checks or your details.

Where the money goes

Each payment goes into your own Stripe account, and Stripe pays it into your bank by itself. Gillie never holds your money and takes no commission. Stripe charges a small fee on each payment, which you can see next to the payment in the Payments list. Its prices are on Stripe’s pricing page.

Anglers pay in your business’s currency. If your bank account is in a different currency, Stripe converts it at its exchange rate. You can change your currency in Your business until you take your first booking.

See your money and payments

Once card payments are on, Payments and payouts shows everything you’d otherwise look up on stripe.com:

  • Your money: what’s on its way to your bank, and what’s already been paid out.
  • Payments: every card payment, with Stripe’s fee. If an angler disputes a payment with their bank, you answer it here.
  • Your details and bank: change your bank account or details. Stripe texts you a code first.
  • Stripe’s invoices: Stripe’s invoices for its fees, for your records.

Someone on your team who looks after billing sees only Your money and Stripe’s invoices.

When Stripe asks for more

Now and then Stripe needs a few more details, like a new ID check. A note shows at the top of Payments and payouts, with the date it’s needed by when Stripe gives one. Tap Add the details to send them.

Card payments usually keep working until then. If they’ve stopped, anglers book and pay you on the day until you add the details.

If Stripe stops card payments

If Stripe stops card payments on your account, anglers can’t book online until it’s sorted. Today says so at the top. Stripe emails you the reason, and its support team can help.

If an angler disputes a payment

Now and then an angler asks their bank for their money back instead of asking you. The booking then shows Disputed in Bookings, its history says how much, and the owner and admins get an email with the date to answer by. Until you answer, it’s also under Needs you on Today.

Gillie fills in your answer for you, without sending it: the trip and its date, who booked and from where, the cancellation terms they agreed to at checkout, what happened to the booking since, and the emails we sent them about it. If you’d already started an answer on Stripe, Gillie leaves it as it is.

Answer it from Payments in Payments and payouts, before that date. Check what Gillie filled in, add anything of your own, like your messages with the angler about the trip, and send it. Only the owner or an admin can answer a dispute; other guides see Disputed on the booking.

If you haven’t answered a few days before the date, we email you again. If the bank doesn’t hear from you in time, it gives the money back to the angler.

The bank decides. When it does, we email you which way it went, the booking’s history says so, and Disputed goes from the booking. If the bank sides with the angler, the money goes back to them, and the booking still shows what they paid.

Refunds

Refund a booking from the booking itself, not from Stripe, so the booking and the angler’s email stay in step. How much an angler gets back is set by your booking terms.

Still stuck, or something here looks wrong? Email [email protected] and you’ll hear back from a person.
